A Computational Method for Stress Analysis in Hip Resurfacing

چکیده

Design Optimization of Hip Resurfacing Prosthesis Using Finite Element Analysis
Hip resurfacing is an alternative to total hip arthroplasty for the young and active patient likely to outlive traditional means of hip joint replacement. To optimize design on the hip resurfacing prosthetic stress profile in the proximal femur after hip resurfacing. The acetabular cup is implanted in much the same fashion as an uncemented total hip arthroplasty, however, implantation of the fe...

Hip resurfacing arthroplasty has been developed as an alternative to traditional total hip arthroplasty, in an effort to minimize the loss of native bone in young patients with symptomatic hip osteoarthritis. Femoral neck fracture following hip resurfacing is a unique complication; several risk factors are associated with this complication, including female gender. In the present study, we used...
متن کاملContact mechanics and wear simulations of hip resurfacing devices using computational methods.
The development of computational and numerical methods provides the option to study the contact mechanics and wear of hip resurfacing devices. The importance of these techniques is justified by the extensive amount of testing and experimental work required to verify and improve current orthopaedic implant devices. As the demands for device longevity is increasing, it is as important as ever to ...
متن کاملComputational modeling of hip replacement surgery: Total hip replacement vs. hip resurfacing
The motivation of the present work is the computational simulation of hip replacement surgery by means of a finite element approach based on open system thermodynamics. Its key feature is a non-constant material density, which is allowed to adapt with respect to changes in the mechanical loading environment. From a computational point of view, the density is treated as an internal variable. Its...
متن کاملBiomechanical study of the resurfacing hip arthroplasty: finite element analysis of the femoral component.
Finite element analysis was performed using 3-dimensional models to examine the biomechanical characteristics of the femoral component in resurfacing hip arthroplasty. Stress concentration was observed in the cortical bone adjacent to the rim of the prosthesis. Stress shielding was observed in the anterosuperior regions on the cancellous bone cross-sections near the cup rim. These biomechanical...
